There was once a time in U.S. history when citrus fruits were considered exotic. To celebrate these unique fruits, J. C. Volkamer (1644–1720) was commissioned to create an extravagant series of large-sized copperplates representing citrons, lemons, and bitter oranges angelically suspended in the sky.
There are only a few colored sets of Volkamer’s work today, which is what makes The Book of Citrus Fruits so special. This reprint includes 56 newly discovered illustrations and is a must-have for any history, art, or citrus lover.
