SILK SHIBORI SCARF

$138.00

This striking silk scarf is made using the shibori dyeing technique.

The word shibori means “to wring, squeeze, and press,” referring to the traditional, manual Japanese dyeing technique. This technique produces multitone patterns on fabric and is similar to yet more intricate than tie-dyeing.

The earliest example of shibori-dyed fabric in Japan is from the eighth century, found among the goods donated by Emperor Shōmu to the Tōdai-ji temple in Nara.

Each scarf is individually dyed by hand, so no two scarves are exactly alike.

  • 100% silk scarf
  • Shibori dyed, so each scarf is unique (scarves may vary slightly from the photos)
  • Dimensions: 78.5" x 27.5"
