In 1901, Henry Huntington and his business partners created the Pacific Electric Railway to connect Los Angeles with Long Beach and other Southern California cities. Under Huntington, the Pacific Electric "Red Car" system expanded throughout greater Los Angeles, carrying thousands of passengers to destinations such as Santa Monica, Pasadena, and Santa Ana.
This RED CAR ornament was inspired by the Pacific Electric 1009 model, bult by Steve Easlon, ca. 1979, on display in the Mapel Orientation Gallery.
